Secondary-Jigsaw reading / Lectura en puzzle

I love jigsaw readings. In my opinion they are one of the greatest activities you can use in your CLIL lessons. They combine the collaborative work with all the foreign language skills: reading, speaking, listening, writing and comprehension. 

Me encantos las lecturas en puzzle. En mi opinión son una de las mejores actividades que tú puedes usar en tus clases de AICLE. Combinan el trabajo colaborativo con todas las habilidades de la lengua extranjera: leer, hablar, escuchar, escribir y comprender.

In a jigsaw reading, students work in two different types of groups. First of all, they work in groups of experts. Each group of expert is given a fragment (or jigsaw piece) of the text to work on. They read the text and try to memorize as much information as possible (they expertise on this fragment). Then, students work in another group make of one expert on each text fragment. Each expert tells their groupmates about what he read about. The groupmates listen to him/her, and take notes. When all the experts from each group have told the others about his/her fragment, all the group tries to re-construct the whole story. The final goal can be to re-write or the story, to fill in a chart with the required information or to answer some questions /activities about the text..

En una lectura en puzzle, los alumnos trabajan en dos tipos de agrupaciones diferentes. Primero, trabajan en grupos de expertos. A cada grupo se le da un fragmento (o pieza de puzzle) del texto en el que trabajarán. Leen el texto y tratan de memorizar tanta información como les sea posible (se hacen expertos en este fragmento). Después, los alumnos trabajan en otro grupo hecho de un experto en cada fragmento del texto. Cada experto cuenta a sus compañeros sobre qué ha leido. Los compañeros le escuchan y toman notas. cuando todos los compañeros de cada grupo han contado a los otros acerca de su fragmento, todo el grupo trata de reconstruir la historia completa. El objetivo final puede ser re-escribir la historia, completar una tabla con la información solicitada o responder a algunas preguntas/ actividades sobre el texto.

 - biographies of famous scientists (Darwin, Mendel, Wegener)

 - scientific stories (the discovery of DNA, the establishment of Cell Theory)

 - other (different types of nutrients)
